The Toledo Area Humane Society (TAHS) was founded in 1884 and is the third oldest in United States history. The THAS is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to the wellbeing of animals for over 120 years. THAS gives a temporary home for lost, unwanted and abused animals until they can find loving forever homes for them. THAS also serves as an educator, informing the community about animal cruelty, responsible training and various other animal issues. The THAS is successful in placing thousands of animals in their forever homes each year. |
The problem that the TAHS faces is the abandonment of animals, independent breeders and un-spayed or neutered animals. Many people abandon their pets for various reasons but one of the most common reasons for it is many pet owners are unaware of proper training and obedience methods. Another problem for the pets is the increasing number of independent breeders who breed and sell pure bred animals or owners have animals that are not spayed or neutered and the result is offspring they can’t afford and are lead to selling the animals or abandoning them. The benefits that TAHS provides for all their animals are:
- pet health exams
- pet vaccinations
- testing for feline leukemia or heartworms
- worming, spaying or neutering
- temperament testing (to find a pet best suited for your lifestyle)
- adoption counselors
